Rigby, Father Mackenzie, a Face in the Jar and some lonely People -
für Percussion, Drehleier und Zuspielband / for percussion, hurdy-gurdy and tape (2005)

Rigby , Father Mackenzie, a Face in the Jar and some Lonely People

Pop music is characterised by the principle of solo and accompanist; I used this idea for this piece. I also took the liberty of creating immediacy of expression - or to put it in a less grand way, the lack of distance of many soloists - by using the hurdy-gurdy solo and the unrestrained use of a sitar. In this piece, all the people the Beatles sing about meet, including the rice that Eleanor Rigby gathers, the church bells, etc. The atmosphere is characterised by hospitalism, which explains why swaying rhythms appear; the gadget used here that you could confuse with the ticking of a clock is actually from a dental practice: it is a needle holder.
The piece ends with my sound vision of a face in a jar...
