Listen, this is for You, Kona

Listen, this is for You, Kona

Last fragments of the blues can be found in this piece which is dedicated to Kona Makhoere. However, you can only hear sounds and doleful gestures here - without the 'blues feeling' - it has been cooled down, as it were. Kona M. is an anti apartheid fighter who spent six years in prison in South Africa and then lived in exile in London for many years. She wrote a prison diary called "No Child’s Play“, in which she talks about her life in solitary confinement, how she heard nightly songs from the death cell, how she defended herself against a warden by poking her with sewing needles... this is why the piece ends with the sounds of four needles.
